I've had a couple of Javanese style bedside cupboards I rescued from my girlfriends kerbside rubbish pile, waiting for a makeover.
This dark stained furniture popular in the 90's was never a hit with me but I knew I could make use of them some how rather than seeing them go to waste.
There is a lot of this style of furniture sitting in many homes, I'm sure of it!
I knew that the stain would be so dark it would need some kind of block to stop it showing through on any kind of paint job, so I sprayed it with a coat of Zinsser stain blocker.
The colour I chose was Dulux 'Diorite' , a soft minty/sage green perfect for the bedroom I decided this piece would live in.
I set about making up a brew of my homemade chalk paint and away I went.
A light sand to smooth off the gritty surface before beginning the distressing on edges and corners as well as on some of the front surface to expose some white undercoat. I then applied a coat of beeswax polish.
Note I have kept the same knobs....(laziness??? perhaps...but they seem to look ok!)
I think she looks pretty fresh and cute. I have recycled the shell and tie Cheryl had used on my recent cushion cover win from her blog 'Beachcomber'.
Now for her twin....!??
